What is the VAMOS Program all about and is it right for me?

The VAMOS Employment Preparation Program is designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities who are navigating the transition from high school to adult life (14+ years of age) without access to long-term services. VAMOS students participate in workshops and learning experiences focused on building soft skills, self-advocacy, benefits counseling, financial literacy, social-emotional growth, and tools for adult living.

The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division’s Outdoor

There is a fee for this program, but a special camp has been funded at no cost through The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division’s Outdoor Equity Program for 80 youth with intellectual or developmental disabilities to participate in the summer of 2024.

who is this for and what skills will you learn at the horse camp?

5 years or older​. All abilities welcome​. No experience required​. Build confidence and practice boundaries. Build and maintain physical strength​. Explore new social-emotional skills​. Learn about animal safety and care​.

Horsemanship Day Camp has limited spots available for each date. Please check in regularly for the next set of dates. Registration is required to attend.

Shannon Burt​

Barn and Animal Coordinator

Shannon Burt currently serves as the Mandy’s Farm Barn and Animal Coordinator. Shannon is a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) Instructor who has worked with and cared for horses throughout her life.
 
Shannon has certifications through the CHA specializing in providing instruction to riders with disabilities, teaching English and Western riding skills, and in equine facility management.
 
She is currently serving as the New Mexico CHA state rep and is passionate about supporting riders of all skill levels as they connect with the horses at Mandy’s Farm
